High-quality glued laminated timber (GLT) is characterized by a high structural capacity, aesthetic aspects and the free shaping possibilities of the timber construction parts. Glued laminated timber is available in straight, curved and turned variants and thus presents almost unlimited design flexibilities for timber construction. We develop individual and project-specific product solutions to meet the complex requirements of modern timber construction architecture and regularly explore the limits of what is feasible. Given the complexity of the supporting structure, the architecture itself and the requirements of structural wood protection, this unique project marks another milestone and a novelty in the project history of HESS TIMBER. The complex prefabrication as well as the subsequent preassembly and erection of the glued laminated timber elements has been one of the biggest challenges for all involved.

MULTISTOREY OFFICE BUILDING

This project marks not only a milestone in the history of HESS TIMBER but also in the Australian construction industry. The foundation for a trend-setting and novel way of building in the urban context was created. To meet the requirements of a commercial building with complex installation levels, HESS TIMBER has developed a new laminated timber beam solution using a combination of spruce and beech that allowed for large service penetrations to be formed within the beam profile whilst providing impressive load bearing capacities.

Largest wooden facade in the world

HESS TIMBER is developing the façade system for the new Google HQ in London together with Josef Gartner GmbH, a leading global manufacturer of custom-made façades. Behind what will be the world's largest wooden façade (23,300 m² total area), a new company headquarters for around 7,000 employees is being built.

Waste-to-Energy Plant Leeds | Leeds

Architectural Sustainability

With a height of 42 metres, the Waste-to-Energy-Plant in Leeds is the largest glulam project in the UK. The assembly was divided into a total of eight construction phases and lasted from April 2014 to May 2015. To deliver all the timber and steel to Leeds, 72 trucks were needed.

TIMBER LIMITLESS

The segmentation of the up to 30-metre-long glued laminated timber elements at our factory facilitated cost-effective and flexible transport in standardised sea freight containers. At the construction site, 61 joints were then executed using the HESS LIMITLESS joint system.

Complex geometries

“For wide-span constructions, especially for those with complex geometries, which cannot be conventionally shipped, HESS LIMITLESS is the ideal solution with regard to cost efficiency. We are specialized in the development and realization of timber construction in Spain and meanwhile have gathered a great deal of experience with using HESS LIMITLESS. On the Tenerife island we thus have recently realized a glued laminated timber beam which is 55 m in length. This is one of the longest in Europe.”

DIGITAL START-UPS

The Centre for Digital Innovations (Zentrum für digitale Innovationen) Mainfranken in Würzburg was completed and opened in 2017. It was funded by the Free State of Bavaria. The CDI Mainfranken serves the founding of digital start-ups in the Würzburg region. We are proud to have been involved in this project and contributed to supporting the founding scene in the region.

Herne Hill Velodrome | Southwark, London

VELODROME LONDON

The new pavilion has an aesthetically pleasing wooden load-bearing and wall structure. The pavilion consists of around 18 m³ of spruce glulam and additional spruce cross laminated timber. The narrow radii of the load-bearing glulam construction are a distinctive feature. HESS TIMBER was commissioned with the planning, production, pre-assembly at the plant as well as on-site assembly.
