What role does timber construction play in protecting the climate?
Wooden buildings extend the carbon reservoir from the forest. Every cubic meter of wood used binds around 1 ton o CO2 in the long term. Every tree felled also creates space for new trees, which in turn actively remove CO2 from the environment. Building with wood therefore helps to avoid CO2 emissions from the production of conventional building materials such as concrete or steel.
What is glulam or glued laminated timber?
Glulam consists of at least two layers of boards that are glued together in the same grain direction. Glulam components are known as glulam trusses or glued laminated timber trusses and enable constructions with wide spans. Glulam is also used for columns.
What is cross laminated timber or CLT?
Cross laminated timber or CLT consists of several layers of boards that are glued together crosswise. This process gives the panel-shaped components high strength and rigidity, making them ideal for use in ceiling and wall constructions.
