The high degree of prefabrication significantly shortens construction times and allows buildings to be occupied earlier. At the same time, noise and dust levels on the construction site are reduced compared to conventional construction – both for new builds and for revitalization or redensification.

The lower weight of timber constructions allows for cost savings when laying foundations. Additions to storeys as part of urban redensification and conversions also benefit from these properties and can be optimally realized with wood.

How tall can you build with wood?

Modern timber engineering methods, especially in the hybrid construction segment such as timber-concrete composite (TCC), make it easy to construct buildings with ten, fifteen or more storeys. In some countries, there are already timber buildings with over 20 storeys, and concepts for significantly higher timber high-rises exist worldwide. The feasibility of such construction projects varies greatly in some cases and depends on the local building regulations and legal framework in the respective countries.

Wood is a renewable, lightweight and at the same time highly resilient building material. Modern timber construction methods enable a high load-bearing capacity, excellent thermal insulation and rapid construction thanks to a high degree of prefabrication. In addition, lower dust and noise pollution compared to conventional construction methods speaks in favor of building with wood in an urban context.
