The Adelaide Aquatic Centre is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025 and will set new standards for sustainable leisure and sports facilities in Australia. The Aquatic Centre will offer a wide range of facilities, including a 50-meter indoor pool, a 25-meter outdoor pool, rehabilitation pools, play areas and fitness and wellness zones. Accessibility and inclusion are at the heart of the design. The project not only impresses with its comprehensive facilities for end users, but also with its innovative design and the use of sustainable materials. Wood was chosen as the building material for the supporting structure, with a total of around 324 m³ of Glulam, 108 m³ of Cross laminated timber (CLT) and around 3,130 m² of prefabricated acoustic ceiling modules being used.
The timber components were delivered by special transport from the HASSLACHER group’s production plant in Hermagor to the port in Zeebrugge. The glulam components, which are up to 37 meters long, were then loaded onto roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ships and shipped to Melbourne, Victoria. The timber components are currently being assembled on site in Adelaide by Standstruct.
