Over the course of its history, the world’s most important cricket venue has been renovated, refurbished and modernized several times. This was most recently the case in 2016, when the construction of the Warner Stand gave the sports complex on St. John’s Wood Road in London a new stand with a unique roof in terms of architecture and materials.
During the planning phase, many different load-bearing systems and materials for the roof construction were examined. It quickly became clear that only wood would do justice to the architectural idea and the sustainability concept sought by everyone involved in the project. Thanks to extensive material tests and comprehensive research and development work, HESS TIMBER was able to make the use of American white oak possible. With component lengths of up to 25 m and cantilever lengths of just over 12 m, the roof structure spans the grandstand below.
