The new Cambridge South Railway Station has been in operation since June 2026. With this new station, the Cambridge Biomedical Campus now has a direct connection to the rail network, providing improved access for employees, patients, and visitors, as well as for the surrounding communities. A total of 424 m³ of glued laminated timber (GLT) and 366 m³ of cross laminated timber (CLT) made of larch were used in the station building and platform canopies. Installation took place under challenging conditions while train service continued.
The site is one of Europe’s most important research and healthcare centers. The new station is designed to handle approximately 1.8 million passengers per year and provides direct connections to destinations including London, Birmingham, Stansted Airport, Gatwick Airport, and London St. Pancras International. As such, Cambridge South is a key component in enhancing the campus’s accessibility and supporting its further development.
