In London’s Mayfair district, which borders Hyde Park and is not far from Buckingham Palace, a very special type of wall and ceiling cladding was created between 2018 and 2021. Free-form hybrid glulam components enhance the interior of a reception hall (Arrivals Court) in a historic building on Grosvenor Street.
FREE-FORM HYBRID COMPONENTS
The core of the components consists of conventional spruce glulam and only the outer sheathing, which is visible when installed, is made of fine walnut. The construction impresses with its unique look and gives the interior an elegant and very high-quality overall appearance.
“This process has already been used successfully in various projects in recent years. The special feature is that the hybrid structure also allows free-form, three-dimensional components and is therefore particularly popular with architects and planners in the interior sector. In addition, almost any type of wood can be used as a surface.”
