The roof structure of the Horizon Cruise Terminal in the port of Southampton consists of 222 partially curved glulam beams, with a length of up to 37 m, a width of 160 mm and a height of 1,400 mm.
HIGH DEGREE OF PREFABRICATION
A key success factor in this project was the high degree of prefabrication of the supplied timber components and the integrated logistics approach with just-in-time deliveries to the construction site in Southampton, UK. In addition to the high degree of prefabrication, the pre-assembly of the steel components at the plant in Kleinheubach also greatly facilitated fast and efficient assembly on site. This made it possible to meet the deadlines and significantly reduce the assembly time required on the construction site.
"From HESS TIMBER's perspective, this project represents another significant step in the implementation of large-scale timber construction projects in the UK. In 2015, the company was already involved in the realization of the waste incineration plant in Leeds - with a height of 42 meters one of the largest glulam projects in the country to date."
