In 2012, the first construction work began in the newly developed Barangaroo district in Sydney. A dynamic commercial, office, retail and residential district was created on the site of a former gasworks. The first commercial multi-storey timber office building in the country, designed by Jonathan Evans, Tsannez, was built in 2016.
INNOVATIVE product development
In order to meet the requirements of a commercially used building with complex installation levels, HESS TIMBER together with the project partners developed a new glulam truss structure. This required extensive research and development work, which resulted in innovative composite beams beams.
With these composite beamsconsisting of glulam and laminated veneer lumber, it was possible for the first time to economically large and numerous breakthroughs realized in a glulam beam – and this without without restricting the load-bearing capacity or the clear height and without the need for further reinforcements. The project not only marks a milestone in the history of HESS with the development of a new market segment, but also in the Australian construction industry as the coming years through industry-wide adaptation of this beam type in various multi-storey timber buildings. buildings. The foundation stone for a pioneering and innovative type of construction in an urban context had been laid.
In addition to intensive research and development work, HESS’s services included component productionpre-assembly of the steel parts and the delivery of components.
